MORE ABOUT MY APPROACH TO PSYCHOTHERAPY

My orientation is Existential-phenomenological, with an integrative element.

Breaking down the jargon:

‘Existential’ = exploring how we live. Understanding our relationship to choice, anxiety, mortality, authenticity and freedom.

‘Phenomenology’ = understanding how we experience life. Noticing what comes up as we talk/what is happening in the room.

The existential approach is more of an attitude than a method, which informs how I am with you. Ethics are central to my work, in that I commit to meeting you as a fellow human being, who is to be respected, valued and met with genuine curiosity and understanding. My stance is exploratory and non-prescriptive.

'Integrative' = I am also trained integratively meaning I may draw on various modalities (psychodynamic, existential,  humanistic) to attend to your uniqueness. I am especially informed by the psychodynamic idea that our early relational experiences influence our present relationships.
